Our method
Why we cut glass with water
Anyone can screw a cat door into a round adapter. We build a new pane instead, and cut the opening to your cat door with a waterjet. Here is what that actually involves, and why it costs more.
The cut
A jet of water, not a drill bit
A waterjet cuts toughened safety glass with a high-pressure stream rather than a blade. Nothing touches the glass but water, so there is no heat, no vibration and no micro-cracking at the edge — the three things that make a pane fail later.
The opening is cut to the exact template of the door you chose. Not a size that is close enough. The exact one.
- Cut to your cat door model, to the millimetre
- No heat or stress introduced at the edge
- Any shape the door needs, not only a circle
- No adapter ring required
Side by side
Most installers drill a round hole. We don’t.
The cheap way to fit a cat door into glass is a universal adapter — one generic circle, sold for every model on the market. Here is what that costs you.
The opening
Waterjet-cut to your exact flap, to the millimetre
One generic round hole — every flap gets the same one
Insulation
Sealed like the original unit, no thermal bridge
A permanent weak point where the adapter meets the glass
Strength
Full structural strength of toughened safety glass
A larger hole than needed, so a weaker pane
Weather
Closed against wind and driving rain
Draughts and moisture creep in as the seal ages
The look
Sits flush — it reads as part of the door
A plastic ring bolted over the glass
The glass
A new unit, built to match the old one
-
Toughened safety glass
ESG throughout. Several times stronger than ordinary glass, and it granulates instead of shattering into shards.
-
Single, double or triple
We match the build of the pane we are replacing — or improve on it. Your insulation value does not drop.
-
Sealed as a unit
The cavity is filled and sealed in the factory, before the unit ever reaches your door. No on-site bodging.
Your original pane leaves intact, wrapped and stored — which is what makes this work in a rented flat.

About the method
Why a waterjet rather than a normal glass cutter?
A waterjet cuts with a high-pressure stream instead of a blade, so there is no heat, no vibration and no micro-cracking at the edge — the three things that make a pane fail months later.
What is wrong with a universal round adapter?
It needs a larger hole than the door itself, which weakens the pane, and it leaves a permanent weak point at the seal. It also sits proud of the glass instead of flush.
Is the replacement glass as good as the original?
The same or better. We match the thermal and acoustic specification of the pane we replace and use toughened safety glass throughout.
What happens to my original pane?
It comes out intact, gets wrapped and packed for storage, and can be reinstalled later. That is included in the price, not an extra.
Can you cut any shape of opening?
Yes. The opening is cut to the template of your chosen cat door, whatever shape it needs — we are not limited to a circle.
